Boyfriend Charged in Death at Soho House
A man who accompanied his girlfriend, a fashion designer, to the exclusive Soho House in Manhattan was charged in her death on Friday, more than a day after the woman’s body was found submerged in a bathtub in a fifth-floor room of the members-only club.
The man, Nicholas Brooks, 24, was charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree strangulation. He had returned to the room early Thursday after workers discovered the body of his girlfriend, Sylvie Cachay, when water running into the tub overflowed and leaked into a room a floor below.
Ms. Cachay, who had been a member of Soho House, was declared dead by paramedics summoned to the room. An autopsy did not determine a cause of death, and the medical examiner’s office said more tests needed to be conducted.
Nick Brooks, the son of Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, had been in police custody since Sylvie Cachay was discovered dead in a bathtub at 3 a.m. Thursday.
